De Kempen is the largest
green area in Flanders. Even in a small radius around
the Baalse Hei you can visit 5 different and versatile
nature reserves: woods, meadows, ponds and obviously sands
to be discovered.
The Winkelsbroek in Turnhout, the Hoge Mouw in Kasterlee
or De Liereman, which is one of the oldest protected nature
reserves in Belgium. Natuurpunt is in charge of maintaining
fauna and flora. The visitor centre is the starting point
for three signposted walks.
You can also visit the woods of Ravels, which belong to
the Flemish region and cover 850 ha. The woods are the
ideal scene for a walk and are enclosed by large agricultural
zones, wood complexes and nature reserves.
